TWO CD RELEASE PARTIES ANNOUNCED FOR WAYNE HAMILTON'S "LUCKY THAT WAY"
Acoustic Vision Productions today announced two
east-coast CD release parties for Minnesota-based singer/songwriter Wayne Hamilton. This
debut CD, entitled "Lucky That Way," was released in the midwest earlier this
year. The first event will take place on Saturday, November 11 from 8 pm to 10:30 pm at
Main Street USA, located at 7131 Little River Turnpike in Annandale, Va. The second event
will be from 8 pm to 10:30 pm on Monday, November 13 at Half Moon Cafe located at 8235
Georgia Ave. in Silver Spring, Md.
"I'm very excited about returning to my roots," says Hamilton. "This will
be a lot of fun for everyone, especially me. I hope to make the CD release parties feel
like reunions with high school and college friends, as well as neighbors, acquaintances
and friends from my younger days here in the metro area."
Hamilton, originally from Annandale, received his musical training in Virginia and
performed many styles of music there and in Maryland before relocating to Minnesota in
1982. A graduate of Annandale High School, Hamilton performed in the A Cappella choir
there and played supporting roles in both Carousel and My Fair Lady. In
addition, he formed and sang lead in a six-piece rock band, the Tor-Kays, which performed
all over the DC metro area and is still remembered by many long-time, Northern-Virginia
residents.
Hamilton then attended Emory & Henry College in Emory, Va., where he sang in the
"varsity" Concert Choir and toured across the United States. He received formal
vocal training from now-professor-emeritus Dr. Charles R. Davis. At Emory & Henry, he
was active in theater and performed in every musical produced while he attended the
college. He also sang with a seven-piece soul band called the Glad Hand, which toured
extensively in southwest Virginia and east Tennessee.
Later, Hamilton received his Master of Fine Arts degree in Speech and Theatre from
Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, where he taught voice and stage dialects to
undergraduates and performed in many plays, both musical and non-musical. While in
Richmond, he also worked as a studio singer at Apple Studios, where he performed in dozens
of radio commercials.
After completing his MFA, Hamilton began a 12-year teaching career that took him to the
Music Department of Montgomery College in Rockville, Md., the Fine Arts Department of
Mount St. Mary's College in Emmitsburg, Md., and finally to the Theater Department of the
University of Minnesota in Minneapolis. All of these teaching appointments involved voice
and musical performances. When not teaching or directing productions at the Maryland
schools, Hamilton often performed at Burn Brae Dinner Theater and Colony 7 Dinner Theater,
among others.
Hamilton is presently a member of ASCAP, is on the board of the Minnesota Songwriters
Association, founded the Twin Cities chapter of Just Plain Folks, a grass-roots,
internet-based networking organization for over 7000 musicians, and performs actively in
the upper midwest region. His web URL is www.waynehamilton.com
The release party bookings were arranged by TV John Langworthy, a high school
classmate of Hamilton's who is still writing, performing and recording his songs in the DC
area. TV John's label, Maxern Records, is located in Potomac, Md. Langworthy will also
perform at both events.
