WAYNE HAMILTON NAMED "COORDINATOR OF THE YEAR" BY JUST PLAIN FOLKS

Minnesota-based singer/songwriter Wayne Hamilton has been named "Coordinator of the Year" by Just Plain Folks, an internet-based, grassroots networking organization for musicians with 9,000 members worldwide. Hamilton’s award was part of the organization’s annual music awards celebration. The Twin Cities chapter, which Hamilton leads, was named "Chapter of the Year."

Just Plain Folks chapters have been established in 23 US cities and in Europe, the United Kingdom, Canada and Australia. The organization’s goals are to provide a networking environment of inclusion and cooperation between its members, to share wisdom, ideas and experiences that help educate each other, and to form long-term relationships with other industry professionals. The group’s web site (www.jpfolks.com) provides message boards, chat rooms, pages for song-lyric feedback and press releases, links, and a board for answering technical questions.

"Wayne's award for his work with the Twin Cities Chapter is well deserved," says Brian Austin Whitney, founder of Just Plain Folks. "His proactive approach to bringing his local music community together reflects the vision we have for all our chapters. Along with his fellow Twin Cities members, Wayne has taken the ball and run with it, setting the example for our other chapters worldwide. After his successes on a local level, we are hoping Wayne will take a more active role as we escalate our chapter system on a global scale next year. We are very proud of all the success of the Twin Cities folks and are looking forward to visiting them in 2001."

"The members of the Twin Cities chapter have a lot to be proud of," said Hamilton. "In addition to our monthly meetings and song circles, members staged five showcases, provided resources and information for each other and sponsored a benefit for a children’s music foundation. All of this happened in nine months, while we doubled our membership. We plan to continue the fun in 2001!"

Hamilton is a member of ASCAP and the Minnesota Music Academy, serves on the board of the Minnesota Songwriters Association, and performs actively in the upper midwest region, with occasional tours to other parts of the country. He appears on two CDs: Lucky That Way, his solo release of all original music, and Homecoming Hootenanny, a 1999 live-concert recording of songs from the folk revival period, featuring artists who attended the same Appalachian-mountain college in Virginia. Both are available at his web site. For more information, please e-mail wayne@waynehamilton.com or call Hamilton's label, Acoustic Vision Productions, at 651-771-6284.
