speedo/rev counter light not working on 1995 golf?
Ive recently bought my 1st car, a 1995 (n reg) vw golf CL and the other night i had to drive home in the dark, i switched my lights on and found that my speedo/rev counter hadnt lite up! (arrghh!) The only thing that was lite was the digital clock, i fiddled with the dimmer switch but that made no difference (apart from dimming and brightening the digital clock!) everything else works (all external lights, radio, overhead light etc) ive had a look at the fuse box but compared to the diagram in my haynes manual, its looks completely different! and i dont wanna mess about with the fuses if thats not the problem, if its just the bulb that needs replacing is that a difficult job?

Hi. I've just had to replace the speedo light in my L reg Mk 3 Golf. Not exactly a difficult job but very fiddly.
To replace instrument bulbs you will have to remove the instrument panel as described in section 12.9 of your Haynes manual. To disconnect the wiring harness from the back of the panel, follow the wiring loom with your fingers and when you can feel the connector, squeeze the two tabs together to release the plug-in connector from the back of the instrument panel. You don't have to disconnect the battery when you do this but it is safer if you do!!!
Allow yourself plenty of time, because it is a fiddly job, and make sure that you have got the correct instrument panel bulbs before you start, they are a special screw fitting with a plastic housing built into the bulb.
